Introduction
Traditionally, Farmers used fertilizers made in their own backyard like crop wastes, animal manure, compost, and Herbal plant extracts. In recent times the availability of fertilizers has been reduced due to lifestyle changes. Now the gardener has to bring some of the fertilizers from other places and the more effective fertilizers are available in the form of liquid for hurdle-free usage. In this blog, we will explore some commonly used organic fertilizers that can help you cultivate a thriving garden while reducing your carbon footprint.
- Animal Manure:
Animal manure is the widely used organic fertilizer that is easily available in and around the farm. Cow, Chicken, Goat, and Pig manure are largely available and those manure should be composed for a few months to eliminate the possible risk of pathogen exposure. Animal manure is rich in Nitrogen, Phosphorus, potash, and other trace elements. It will release the nutrients slowly in the soil which makes availability of nutrients all the time for the plants.
- Seaweed- Organic fertilizer
Seaweed has been used as a fertilizer for centuries. It is a fast-acting fertilizer that improves the plant’s ability to absorb the nutrients already available in the soil. Seaweed is available in both liquid and dry conditions and it can be used in any form.
- Humic Acid- Organic fertilizer
Humic acid is processed from decomposed plant matter in the form of leonardite. Humic acid is supposed to be in the soil naturally where abundant use of synthetic fertilizers eroded the Humic substances in the soil. It is the best organic fertilizers to promote the growth and white root development of the plant. Water holding capacity will improve when the humic acid is present in the soil.
- Vermicompost
Vermicompost is an enriched form of compost made using earthworms. Agri waste and manure are stored in a pit then the earthworms are added in it then in a few weeks the compost will be ready to use in the garden. Earthworms compost all the leaves and manure throughout the process and it produces earthworm castings which are rich in nutrients.
- Fish Amino acid:
Fermentation of Fish meat and bone with Jaggery is Fish amino acid. It contains a nutrient-rich liquid which is very effective and ready to use. It is a bit smelly but really good for plants. The result will be immediate and great for leafy plants that require more nitrogen.
Conclusion:
Organic gardening is not just about the final product but also about nurturing the soil and ecosystem. By choosing these commonly used organic fertilizers, you can cultivate a sustainable, chemical-free garden that yields healthy and abundant crops while contributing to a greener planet. So, go ahead and embrace the green thumb approach by incorporating these natural fertilizers into your gardening routine. Your plants—and the environment—will thank you for it.
