How to Grow Oregano Herb Seeds

  1. Soil Preparation : Oregano seeds grow well in well-drained, light soil. Loamy or sandy soil mixed with compost gives better results.
  2. Sowing Seeds:  Sow the oregano seeds directly in pots, grow bags, or garden beds. Sprinkle the seeds evenly on the surface and press them lightly into the soil without burying them too deep. A thin layer of soil cover is enough.
  3. Watering : Keep the soil slightly moist until the seeds germinate. Avoid over watering, as oregano prefers drier conditions once established.
  4. Germination : Seeds usually germinate within 4 - 7 days when kept in a warm and sunny location.
  5. Sunlight : Oregano requires plenty of sunlight. Place the plants in an area that receives at least 5–6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  6. Transplanting : If started indoors, young seedlings can be transplanted once they are a few inches tall. Space them around 20–25 cm apart for healthy growth.
  7. Care and Maintenance : Regularly trim or pinch the plant to encourage bushy growth. Water only when the soil feels dry. Avoid excess fertilizer, as oregano thrives in lean soil conditions.
  8. Harvesting : Leaves can be harvested once the plant is well-established, usually after 8–10 weeks of sowing. Regular harvesting also encourages new leaf growth.
